1841 and 1851 census look up please
« on: Tuesday 29 October 13 22:30 GMT (UK) »

Would like details of James Emes aged about 60 and family in 1841/1851 census. They were living in the Shoreditch area of London. Hopefully will show wife Mary about the same age.

Many thanks

I thank you both for your prompt replies. I don't think this can be them. James was definitely married to Mary. James was born about 1780, married Mary at St.Leonards Shoreditch 25.12.1803.

Thanks anyway.
Best wishes

Hi could well be Mary died, and he married an Elizabeth? Or do you know if this would be incorrect?

Hi davidft and keyboard86

It never occurred to me that James was a widower and remarried, but I think you are correct.
In the 1841 you give James with wife Elizabeth and daughter Martha aged 20 which is correct, Martha was James and Mary's youngest child.

I can't at the moment relate to the grandson Charles Brittain aged 3.
I suppose this is what makes family research so interesting.

Thank you both so much, you have been so helpful.

Best wishes
