William Jenkins and Elizabeth Savage
« on: Wednesday 06 November 13 09:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with William Jenkins born 1648, Billington, Bedford, died 1686 at same place? He married in 1673 Elizabeth Savage.
I have conflicting information for Elizabeth. One states that she was baptised on April 16th 1648 at Cardington, Bedford, although does not state her parents? Another is that she was the daughter of Thomas Savage, 3rd Earl Rivers (1628 - 1694) and his wife Elizabeth Scrope (1627 - 1680).
William Jenkins and Elizabeths children were: William 1674, Elizabeth 1676, Joan 1679, Susan (Susanna) 1682 and Mary 1684, all baptised at Billington.
There are a number of trees on Ancestry which have Elizabeth Savage as the daughter of the 3rd Earl Rivers but no proof that she actually married William Jenkins?
Any help with the above gratefully received! ??? :)

OK I can 'google' with the best of them and can find Thomas Savage, 3rd Earl Rivers born about 1628 Cheshire & married about 1647 to Elizabeth Scope, & they did have daughter Elizabeth as well as Thomas Savage 4th Earl Rivers & daughter Arrabella there is no indication as to where & when Elizabeth was born. Thomas Savage died in 1694 St Giles, Middlesex - why would he let his daughter marry William Jenkins from darkest Leighton Buzzard ?

There is an Elizabeth Savage baptised 16 Apr 1648 Cardington to Henry & Elizabeth SAVEDG. There is a Cardington marriage of Henry Savage to Elizabeth Gosse on 6 July 1643, apart from Elizabeth the only other baptism I can find is on 26 Jan 1654 of Henry son of Henry Savage. Burials are more interesting. On 16 Feb 1656 we have Elizabeth daughter of Henry Savage, on 24 Feb 1657 we have Elizabeth, wife of Henry Savage, & on 24 Feb 1691 is Henry Savage himself.

So I would rule out the Cardington Elizabeth Savage.

Back to Billington/Leighton Buzzard.
William Jenkins, yeoman was buried 12 Apr 1686. Soon after on 5 Aug 1686 Thomas Hogge married Elizabeth Jenkins, widow of Billington. Thomas & Elizabeth Hogg have 5 more children between 1687 & 1696. Thomas Hogg buried 14 Nov 1709. Do these Ancestry trees mention Elizabeth's 2nd marriage to Hogg(e) - if not they have not been researched.

Hi!
Many thanks for the help. I haven't looked at a second marriage of Elizabeth Savage so will have a look and see what comes up. At least Cardington is ruled out! Still no clearer on Elizabeths parents though! Will keep looking.
Cheers, Andrew :)

The children of William Jenkins who married Elizabeth Savage in 1673 are: William, 8 January 1674, Elizabeth, 1 October 1676, Joan (?) 2 March 1679, William 31 August 1679, Susan (Susanna) 25 February 1682 and Mary, 4 October 1684.
The children of Thomas Hogge and Elizabeth Savage are: Leda, 23 July 1687, Thomas, 26 December 1688, Elizabeth 21 December 1690, Ann, 7 May 1693 and Thomas 12 July 1696.
Ironically Leda is a Greek name meaning Lady. Perhaps this is a clue?!
Have checked Ancestry and there are no trees for Thomas Hogge or Elizabeth Savage so it looks like more research to be done.
A couple of trees for William Jenkins (1648 - 1686) have him as the son of a General John Jenkins born in 1622 by his wife Margaret Cobb.
If anyone can help with any of the above I would be most grateful! :)

'Leda' is most likely the Lydia Jenkins who married John Fasson of Eaton Bray in 1709

The first Thomas Hogg child was buried 16/3/1689

0191alexII - Are you still looking into Elizabeth Savage and William Jenkin?
johnP-Bedford in Roots Chat has suggested that Elizabeth did not die in 1679 (as Family Search site has - Latter Day Saints)
This would allow for a daughter Susanna born in 1680 to Elizabeth and William.
William dying in 1686.
Have you found further info ?
cheers

I am searching for some proof that Elizabeth Jenkins (Savage) went on to marry Thomas Hogge after the death of William Jenkins.
Family Search shows Elizabeth as dying in 1679 but having a daughter Susanna in 1680.
Appreciate any help
