Manchester Churches
« on: Sunday 10 November 13 16:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello All

Slightly off genealogy - but I wonder if anyone here can help me locate photographs/images of the interior of:

1. All Saints Church, Chorlton on Medlock, Manchester
2. St Mary's Church, Hulme, Manchester

For many years I have been researching aspects of Church history in Manchester and have never seen an interior photograph of either Church. Can anyone help?

Many thanks for any thoughts...

Graham

Hi Graham,
There is a book of Manchester churches called 'Like a Mighty Tortoise: a history of the Diocese of Manchester' by Rev Arthur J Dobb. If you can borrow a copy from your library you will find a photo of St Mary's Hulme's  interior on page 164. Photos in the book were taken by Mr Derek Ralphs.
There isn't one of All Saints though unfortunately

Hope that helps
 :) Barbara

Graham,  many of the photographs in the book Barbara mentioned were taken by Rev. Roy Carmyllie .Vicar of St. Andrew`s Church Ramsbottom.
He realised they would be lost when the demolition started during the "slum" clarances of the 1950`s-60`s so he travelled round taking as many photographs as he could. I imagine they will be in a collection most probably in M/C Central Library archives. I even think they are catalogued under "Carmyllie collection".
I may have made an error and it could be Carmillie but you`ll trace them I`m sure.
Have a bash you`ll be surprised how many there are like St Catherine`s Collyhurst( which features greatly in my F.History) in the  M/C city archives collection? Best of luck. Viktoria.
