this looks like the Samuel Hickson baptised Wharton IS your Samuel Hickson
but Samuel is down as Foreman of Saltworks - so looks like he didn`t own it
Margaret is there with him and 3 children and a son in law

There is no mention of a Hickson's Salt Works in "Salt in Cheshire" published in 1915. https://archive.org/details/cu31924030692697

Samuel is on the 1861 census, a Banksman at Saltworks
also wife Margaret and children
Joseph 15, Mary E 12, William 9, Thomas 7, Sarah Ann 2

I wonder...... Could he have worked at the Lion Saltworks, Northwich.
If you Google it there are plenty of hits.

As he lived in Wharton it is unlikely he would work at the LIon Salt Works (about 7 miles away), there were many salt works within walking distance in Winsford, as you can see on the 1881 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=365500,366500

Yes, your quite right Stan, I should have checked.

Looking at the 1851 census
HO107; Piece: 2166; Folio: 226; Page: 29

Samuel's address is Dudleys Works, Wharton, but given that as you say there are lots of salt works in the area there is no saying that he worked at the same place all his life.

Samuel is on the 1861 census, a Banksman at Saltworks

A Banksman worked at the top of the shaft, signaled to the winding-engine man, and regulated the  lowering and raising of workmen and salt.

Samuel's address is Dudleys Works, Wharton

You can see Dudley Works at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=365468,367190 on the 1898 map, select from the list at the right side. The shaft was 40 yards deep.
