1881 census
« on: Thursday 21 November 13 20:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if someone could kindly look up Emma Shinn on an original copy of the 1881 census and see if she was born in Lynn Norfolk.
Emma is age 11 with William and Eliza Cornwell in Elvenden.

census ref:- RG11/1846 f10 pg13

In 1901 Emma now Austin with her mother Eliza Cornwell are both shown born Brandon!

many thanks

That was quick, only just finished making a cuppa :D thank you very much.

Just gone back to this one, I cannot find Mum Eliza and Emma in 1871.
previous thread http://www.rootschat.com/links/0x15/
but I don't think any of those found are my Emma.

I have Eliza Shinn in 1861 age 22 born Brandon with her parents James and Rachel Shinn
RG9/1264 f61 pg25
Eliza married William Cornwell 25 Dec 1875 in Elvenden, she was a Spinster

According to the Family Bible Emma was born 5 Jan 1870.

many thanks

Thanks for your help Keyboard86, I didn't have that.

An unmarried daughter in law :-\ that's a new one on me.
FreeBMD has a death for a Rachel Shinn Dec 1863, but James is still shown as married and not a widower.
I wonder where William Cornwell is  in 1871.

thanks again for taking the time looking for Eliza and Emma

Just for the record:
Daughter-in-law was sometimes used to mean step-daughter. You see it in the official records, and it also appears in novels of the Victorian period.
Hope this doesn't complicate your searches. ;)
