John Gladney
« on: Saturday 23 November 13 21:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm trying to find information about the military career of John Gladney. I believe he served in the Crimean War and was involved in Cephalonia and Gibraltar. That's all I have.
Any help would be much appreciated,
                         Thanks
                              Wayne

Hi Wayne

I could not find a Gladney (or the more common Gadney) in the Crimean medal rolls.

There is a regimental birth to a John Gladney born Belfast to a soldier of the 30th Regiment in 1839. The records of a John Gladney born in Enniscorthy, Wexford in 1807 who served in the 30th Regiment are also on Findmypast. But you should review the information that you are looking for a soldier before making a connection. Do you know if any of his siblings was born overseas for example.

FindMyPast also have the records for another John Gladney who served in the 54th Regiment – born in Killann, Wexford – who was awarded a medal for serving in Egypt in 1801. Soldiers had to be alive in 1847 in order to receive this medal.
