I have just found Edward Thompson's Army Records, it gives details of the marriage

Mary Ellen Enderby married Edward Thompson 19 Feb 1910 St Peters Church Leicester

There is this Birth Record registered in 1915

I can't find the 1891 Birth Record on Ancestry for her

It wouldn't show a middle name on the index after 1911    It has got to be an Anc*  transcript error

Yet on freebmd the only possible marriage in Leicester of Edward Thompson to a Mary Ellen is to Mary Ellen E Tiday and no Enderby marriages at all that year in Leicester so it does look promising

I did wonder if the Lois Enderby who is lodging with them may have been the mother - but there's only 12 years between them so I doubt it (and her age matching with other census)

The mother, may be Louis's mother Caroline, she had a brood of young children, and may not have been able to cope with another one, you may need the BC for Mary as well, as she marries as Tidy, and the Army records confirms she was Enderby

One thing that I forgot to mention,

There is a tree on Ancestry which has living descendants of Edward and Mary Thompson. This has the army references and some pictures of deceased relatives.

Got the certificate today and

You were RIGHT - she is Mary Ellen Enderby Tiday, father William Tiday a Hawker (which matches what I know of William) living at 16 Willow Cottages, Taylor Street
