*COMPLETED* Mortgage & Assignment to Attend - LANE & LOVETT
« on: Friday 29 November 13 17:10 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know which of the William LANE & Richard LOVETT was mortgaging what in the following doc?

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=008-earls&cid=9-5#9-5

and what on earth the following Assignment to Attend was all about

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=008-earls&cid=9-9#9-9

N.B. The LANEs bought Overdean over a hundred years previously and a John LOVETT married Elizabeth LANE in 1644 and perhaps are connected to the later Richard LOVETT. See:-

It is often difficult (if not impossible) to fully understand this type of document from the catalogue entry - you will need to visit Bucks Archives to see the documents, in full or obtain a transcription of them.

Maybe but I think you can see which way the money went, looking at it again, i.e.

on 6 December 1715 Richard Lovett was repaid £307. 12. 3d. by Sydenham

 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=008-earls&cid=9-9#9-9

This was taken out of £1180 paid to William Lane by Sydenham for the Manor of Overhall on 5/6 December 1715

 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=008-earls&cid=9-7#9-7

and was repayment for the original loan of £220 in 1711 and a further £60 in 1713

So an interpretation would be that in 1711 William Lane was struggling financially and needed two loans from Richard Lovett, but didn't recover so sold his land to Richard Sydneham in 1715 and repaid Richard Lovett what he owed plus 5% interest???
