There was a fair bit of Anglicising of names which could make finding them Veeeeery difficult. I just did a 1st name search in NSW using the Frederick John or reverse with same for parents and no luck as none (out of 237) with even similar name ???

My Gager's changed from Jaeger in 1870's

Thanks Aussie1947 your reply; FRANCIS also had a conviction in 1863 along with the 1890 one where he was found not guilty  ???  rather strange that outcome.  It's become a bit of a family joke that he 'paid his way here to become an Australian convict'  ;D   I found a registration of a death of a FRANK BURKART 1904 NSW BDM #12741 with no parents names - yet to obtain certificate.

Shirley: I had tried to follow through on that BURGHARD at Smith St., to see if descendant, but had no luck.

on Trove there are a couple of newspaper articles re Frank Burkart

also some bits and pieces regarding "F. Burghart, London Tailor to the Royal Family"

might be worth having a search on Trove

Thanks Gerry and Cass your replies …. can certainly see Francis, maybe Frank ? being a 'bootlegger' of sorts.  Thanks info on newspaper articles on TROVE - will shift through those tomorrow.  Bonnie

There was a Frank Burkart who came from Germany and who was naturalised in 1896
http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/indexsearch/searchhits.aspx?table=Naturalisation&ID=30&query=burkart&frm=0

so perhaps this is not your Francis.

Ros,

I think you are correct this is not Francis.

Frank Burkart of Minto was Naturalised 10th Feb 1896.
