John Lincoln, Sandy, Beds.
« on: Monday 02 December 13 08:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to follow the 'Lincoln' line but have come unstuck at the first hurdle.

John Lincoln married Martha Breybrook 10 Jan 1737, Sandy, Beds.

Possible baptism for John is 11 March 1705, Potton. Father - Simon Lincoln.

Possible marriage of Simon to Elizabeth Cadwell 21 Oct 1703, Tadlow, Cambs.

Possible baptism of Simon is 7 Nov 1679 Guilden Morden.

Many thanks in advance.

- where did John and Martha baptise children?
- does the 1737 marriage entry provide any detail other than the names? Pre 1754 it's unlikely but you might get lucky.
- other than a burial of a William in 1724, the 1737 marriage seems to be the first Lincoln entry in Sandy PR. Who was William?
- BLARS hold an Admon for Simon Lincoln of Potton, waggoner Ref A1732/6. Was John of Sandy mentioned?
- with the commonest possible name of John I don't think you can assume he was the John baptised in Potton in 1705, at least not without a lot more work.
- I wouldn't spend any time on the 2nd and 3rd possibles before I'd confirmed the 1st possible was the right one

Thank you, David.

I will follow up on the points you make.

I think John and Martha baptised their children in Sandy. I can see a couple of deaths registered there aswell as the births (1739 - 1758).

Re the marriage, there is nothing else on the LDS or FreeREG so I would need to follow up on the microfiche and hope it contains other info. Martha was baptised in Blunham so there must be a 'Sandy' connection with them marrying there.

William's abode is given as just down the road in Hitchin, Herts on the FreeREG burial entry. Perhaps he lived/worked there but came 'home' to Sandy to be buried, perhaps not. I take your point re he, William, being the first 'Lincoln' to be entered in the Sandy PR's so I will continue to try and locate himself and siblings elsewhere.

The BLARS info would need a photocopy ordering so I could look into that.

I accept possibilities 2 and 3 should be ignored. I thought to include them on my original posting as it may have helped.

I trust that it is not as 'white' with yourself as it is up here.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

With reference to William, I have a Wm Lincoln bap 30 June 1678 Guilden Morden to a Simon Lincoln. He could be the same William.

Other children of Simon are:-,

Margaret 1683 - 1686
John 1682 - 1683
Simon 7 Nov 1679 - mentioned in my first posting.

If that all tied together it could make William a possible uncle to John (married to Martha). BUT why 'Sandy' for the burial of William and the marriage of John ???

With reference to the BLARS the LDS have a marriage of a Simon Lincoln to a Mary Austen 26 July 1722 Potton. Perhaps this is the Simon mentioned by BLARS.

I'm assuming the ref A1732/6 refer's to the year 1732. If so, this would tie in date wise.

Regards,

Mark.

Possible baptism for John is 11 March 1705, Potton. Father - Simon Lincoln.

Unfortunately this is followed by the burial at Potton on 26 Apr 1705 of John, son of Simon Lyncoln/Lincolne - so that's knocked that one on the head!

With reference to the BLARS the LDS have a marriage of a Simon Lincoln to a Mary Austen 26 July 1722 Potton. Perhaps this is the Simon mentioned by BLARS.
Simon Lincoln was buried at Potton on 4 Oct 1732. The Admon at BLARS is that on oath, Mary Ann Lincoln of Potton, relict & John Miller of Potton & John Truelove of Potton swore that she, Mary was the widow of Simon Lincoln.

Prior to that July 1722 marriage was a burial at Potton on 12 Feb 1722 of Elizabeth wife of Simon Lincoln, although the marriage does not state he's a widower.
