Griffith (Roberts - Patronymic) Prichard - Bryncroes Birth Record

Hello:

Would some kind volunteer be willing to look and see if there is a birth certificate or registration for:

Griffth Prichard - or - Griffith Roberts Prichard

son of Robert Prichard and wife Ellen or Ellinor of Bryncroes, living in a home called Penygroes.

His baptism took place 15 November 1840.  Strong suspicion he was born earlier in 1840.  Hoping the certificate will have the surname prior to marriage of the mother, Ellen.

Hi Steve, looking at the original baptism, their is no mention of a previous surname for the mother of Griffith Roberts Pritchard, and no mention of an earlier date of birth?

Have you found Griffith on a census? If so, where was he born. If it was Bryncoes then the birth should be registered in the Pwllheli Registration District. There are four Griffith Prichard births registered in that district in 1840 and one late 1839. The GRO Index is available on FreeBMD.

Thank you very much for your help.  I have ordered GRO records before, and it helps to know that there were only four Griffith Roberts or Prichards in 1840 (better than 10 or 20...).  That being the case, since I don't know which of the four to request, if I send all my known information with the request form (parent's names, birthplace, etc.), will the GRO check that against the four born that year and send me the correct one that corresponds, or do I have to request a specific, single record from the four born in 1840?  I cannot recall how it worked when I ordered records years ago, although I must say, I always seemed to get the correct relative's record. I just don't want to waste time and money ordering and receiving the wrong record.

Oh, and yes, on the 1841 census, Griffith was documented as being 7 months old.
