English migration to Australia
« on: Sunday 08 December 13 04:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I have been trying to find someone who emigrated to Australia about 1962-1966. He came on the SS Canberra. He was born approx. 1940-42 and lived in Stourbridge Worcestershire. I have tried looking up many records, but they only seem to go up to 1960. I can't mention his name as he could well be still living, is there anyway I can PM someone on your site to give his name.
Cheers Kristin

If they were assisted immigrants then their records will be here http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/
(it goes up to 1969 at least)

Just search in the main search box - don't go to passenger lists.

Not all Assistant Migrants up to 1969 have been indexed, I emigrated in 1965 and I'm not there nor are some other migrants I'm aware of.

Do you know whereabouts in Australia he emigrated to?

Andy

My family migrated on Sitmar Line 'Castle Felice in August 1966, there is a record on Australian Archives.  I would have thought all £10 poms would have been listed. :-\

Many like us went straight into a Migrant Hostel, just like being back in the Army, probably worse.

I came out by plane in 1966, and am listed  :o :o

As a single, I was sent to a flat in Kirribilli, and left to fend for myself. Worked out OK

no Andycand, I don't know where he settled, I was just trying to find him for a friend in the UK who lost touch with him after he emigrated, by the looks of it, it's going to be almost impossible
Cheers Kristin

Hi wattleflat,
Have you tried the Australian phone number listing at the white pages?http://www.whitepages.com.au/

I also had dramas trying to find my parents immigration details to Oz in the early 50's. The archives office explained that not all family names are indexed BUT the ships were so by finding the ship, then searching the manifests I was able to find the details.
