Thomas Saunders look uo request please.
« on: Sunday 08 December 13 20:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi, i am trying to find any information on Thomas Saunders. The info i have is he died 27/2/1908, Enstone Hill, Middle Barton, Oxford age 84. That would put him being born about 1824.This is from a remembrence card. I am trying to find who he married. The card was found in with the Matthews family cards who are my ancestors so i am trying to find the connection. Any help much appreciated. I am also looking for a William Matthews died 17/8/1910 Enstone Hill Middle Barton Oxford aged 73,born abt 1835, or should i do a separate post. thank you.

Have you looked for either of them on the 1881 census - or later ones - to establish birthplaces/wives names etc

Hi, thanks for that. It ties them together. I will assume that Sarah Matthews was the daughter of Thomas Saunders, and married a Matthews.I knew they must have been connected. My GGG grandfather was Thomas Matthews (Duns Tew) married Lydia ? .(Oxford). They owned the Plough Inn, Deddington.thank you for the help.

Hi
From Parish Register Transcriptions, OFHS CD OXF-WOD02William Matthews of Steeple Barton was buried at St Edward the Confessor Church, Westcote Barton on 19 Aug 1910.

Middle Barton was not a parish but a collection of houses which were within the Steeple Barton Parish but many folk went to St Edwards as it was nearer.

There is no burial listed Thomas Saunders so I reckon they may have taken him home to be buried at Bourton on the Hill, Gloucestershire?

To do something to help you with Thomas Matthews who married Lydia it helps if you put years rather then or at least as well as Gt Gt Gt etc etc which means nothing to anyone outside your family?

Hope this helps?

hi, thanks for the information.Yes sorry i should have put dates. Although i have found a bit out about Thomas Matthews from the 1861 census and a bit from another site i asked a question on. Thomas Matthews was christened 13/4/1817 born Duns tew and Lydia 1818 but not sure where in Oxford for her. There is a marriage for a Thomas Matthews and Lydia Horton 1839 but no proof its them. I was mainly trying to tie in the Thomas Saunders with the Matthews, which looks like we may have done that, thank you for the help.
