George Kefford, Baptist marriage
« on: Monday 09 December 13 12:12 GMT (UK) »
I had posted on the Hertfordshire board because my husband's great great grandfather John Kefford was born in Royston in 1799.  I have now found his baptism in Hertford in 1829 and the record states that his parents were George and Mary and his father was a Baptist.  The only marriage I could find for a George and Mary (Stallybrass) was 23 Oct. 1781 in Royston.  They may have had more children (if I have the right couple) because John was born 18 years after this marriage.  Any help much appreciated please.  :)

Not sure I understand the baptism being in 1829. However there was a Mary Stallybrass baptised 18/6/1762 in Royston-parents John and Elizabeth.
regards.

You may be out of luck with this one as although the parents would have had to marry in an Anglican church they didn't have to have the children baptised there.I've not come across any non-conformist records from that period.

You said on the Herts board that you were looking for a baptism of George Kefford

The Cambs FHS only offer CDs of various parishes which seem to cost between £14 and £17 each, so although there were about 4 references to a George Kefford born within 10 years of 1765 but not in Royston, it would be difficult to pick the right CD.

Which was why I suggested that you try this board where someone might have the Baptism Index.

:) My thanks to all of you.

I think I will now close this question knowing that I will probably never know the true answer.  John was baptised at the age of 30, after his marriage in 1826 and the birth of 2 sons! I am just happy that I found the details for John.  :)

There's a burial of George Kefford in 1806 in Royston, and another in 1824 age 36, possibly the son of the earlier one. Do the entries add any information, eg occupation?

The only entry I have seen has been for John and because he was an adult when he was baptised it gives the profession as Tailor which could refer to either John or George.  John was a Tailor and I do realise that his father could also have been a Tailor.  The actual entry in the parish register is very faint and it is difficult to read the address which could be St Andrews Street (where the Church is situated) and John lived in Port Vale.   :-\

I think the 1824 burial might be George Kefford baptised 13 June 1788, parents Thomas & Sarah.

Book marking as though I had clicked the notify tab it doesn't seem to have registered, shows on the page as "unotify" but I have had no notifications for some obscure reason.
