Hi
I’m wondering if Jane who married Christopher Mouls had been married previously to a Mr. Vincent, hence her ‘surname’ on the marriage registration.
Nancy Batten was Jane’s sister. Her age varies throughout the censuses. She is also known as Ann according to census details. In 1841 she (Nancy) and Joseph are together in Paul. From 1861 onward she ( Ann) is with her husband, Joseph and niece and nephew, Annie and William Henry Mouls (variations of spelling) both born Cardiff Wales.
I wanted to confirm Nancy/Ann’s maiden name was Vincent but unfortunately I cannot find a marriage of a Nancy/Ann VINCENT to a Joseph Batten.
There is, however, a marriage of a Joseph Batten to an Ann Parkins Rodda in June q 1840 in Penzance.
From the Cornwall OPC we get this information
Joseph Batten (fisherman, father: John, labourer)) = Ann Perkins Rodda (servant, father: Thomas, labourer)
18 April 1840, Paul
A Jane Rodda marries a Joseph VINCENT , June q 1841, Penzance.
Cornwall OPC:
Joseph Vincent (Mariner, father: William, lab) = Jane Rodda (20, no occ., father Thomas , a butcher)
14 April 1841, Penzance.
Father has same name but the occupations are completely different...which could be an error.
There are also two deaths in Penzance which would then make Jane Vincent nee Rodda a widow and able to marry Christopher Mouls in 1850.
Joseph Vincent , July Q 1846
Joseph Vincent, Jan q 1847
Then I found these baptisms on IGI …which seems to confirm that nancy/Ann and Jane were sisters:
Anne Rodda d/o THOMAS and SARAH 1 May 1821, Penzance
Jane PERKINS Rodda d/o THOMAS and SARAH 18 July 1823
There are a few more children to this couple.
In 1841:
Penwith, Penzance, Madron
Adelaide Street
Thomas Rodda 50, Butcher
Sarah Rodda 50
John Bull 18
Henry Rodda 20 butcher
Thomas Rodda 10
Jane Parkins/Perkins 80, independent
Thomas Rodda = Sarah Perkins
26 Feb 1816
Madron
I think that in order to have peace of mind about Jane and her family, you should definitely order the marriage cert.
