Very complicated folks:
Annie Hemmings born 1885/6 Stow on the Wold. This is proven.
She may have had a liaison with a man with the name Dudley (could be given or surname) who was an Agent on a large estate. This is speculative.
The name Dudley was added to her daughter Cecilia Dudley Hemmings born 1905 in Upton on Severn died 1982 in Malvern. This is proven.
Between 1929 and 1937 nine children are listed in Stoke and the children's and mother's surname in the record swap between Hemmings and Dudley. e,g 1929 baby called Hemmings mother Dudley
1916 baby called Dudley mother Hemmings The may be a co-incidence.
Can you find Annie between birth and having Cecilia?
Anything at all could help the search. I'm totally flummoxed.
Thanks Mike

Fact : Annie Hemmings born 1885/6 Stow.
Daughter Cecilia Dudley Hemmings born 1905 Upton on Severn, Worcestershire no father known.
Can any body find Annie between her birth and the arrival of Cecilia, her father may have the name Dudley either given or surname.
Thanks Mike

There is a marriage in Stoke in 1916 between Theophilus S HEMMINGS and Mary J A DUDLEY, so they may be the parents of some of the children you mention - Annie would be over 50 in 1937.
However, seven HEMMINGS children with mmn DUDLEY are registered in Stoke in the March quarter of 1937, with at least 2 indicated as late registrations.

Looks like the Dudley/Hemmings connection in Stoke is a juxta position of surnames rather than an adopted name.
Many thanks.

This looks like her birth registration but I can't see her in the census as yet.

Looking on FreeBMD, Cecilia's birth and marriage are under the surname HEMMING (no 's').
Have you found her on the 1911 census?

Yes, I am helping Cecilia's daughter. Cecilia was Hemmings, then took the name Kelsey, then ended up Campbell, she is well documented. It is her elusive Mum, Annie I want, looks like Stoke is not relevant.

There is this. I haven't followed this Annie from through the census
1881 RG12 Piece 1594 Folio 94 Page 5
The Workhouse of the Chippenham Union
Sarah Ann Hemmings 30 Box Wiltshire
Alice Maude Hemmings 9 Corsham Wiltshire
Annie Hemmings 5 Corsham
I can find a birth for Alice Maud in Wiltshire but none for Annie.
