Geisenheim Germany
« on: Saturday 21 December 13 02:05 GMT (UK) »
My great great grandparents were married in the Catholic Church in Geissenheim in 1854/1855. Three of their children were born in Australia. There is a different marriage date on each certificate.
Is there any way of finding out about this marriage?

Hi Denise,

the Mormons have films for the Kirchenbücher of Geisenheim :  https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/244359?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Christenings (Taufen) and Marriages (Heirat) for the years 1756 - 1791 are on the internet:

You can also get in contact with the Archive of the Diocese of Limburg but ask for costs first. http://www.bistumlimburg.de/bildung-kultur/dioezesanarchiv.html

Regards Peonie :)

You're brilliant, Pfingstrose!

In case Denise is wondering, Geisenheim is in the district (Kreis) of Rüdesheim (these days they're effectively one town), on the north bank of the Rhine about 15 km west of Mainz and with the Taunus hills rising behind.  It would have been in the old Regierungsbezirk (about the size of a county) of Wiesbaden.

I see there's also a Geisenhain, a village SE of Jena; and a Gaisheim, a village about 15 km E of Weiden in der Oberpfalz (north Bavaria).

Bagwell of Kilmore & Lisronagh, Co. Tipperary;  Beatty from Enniskillen;  Brown from Preston, Lancs.;  Burke of Ballydugan, Co. Galway;  Casement in the IoM and Co. Antrim;  Davison of Knockboy, Broughshane;  Frobisher;  Guillemard;  Harrison in Co. Antrim and Dublin;  Jones around Burton Pedwardine, Lincs.;  Lindesay of Loughry;  Newcomen of Camlagh, Co. Roscommon;  Shield;  Watson from Kidderminster;  Wilkinson from Leeds
