Barbadoes Street cemetery
« on: Saturday 04 January 14 21:42 GMT (UK) »
I live in England, but my grandfather and great grandparents are buried in the Barbadoes Street cemetery in Christchurch. I know from websites I have recently looked at that it was badly affected in the earthquake. The sites I looked at all dated from 2011 and they were all very despondent about the future. Does anyone know how things look now?

I Drive past on occasions, but never go in for a look .  Being so old many of the stones have toppled over with time and quakes.
One side is closer to the river than the other and a a main road runs through, a strange setup.
There is a story of one grave that bleeds blood from the headstone, turns out the stone was made from something that causes it to leech some kind of mineral.
If you went into the Christchurch city library site they give some history

Hi Top-of -the-hill
I am happy to wander the cemetery to take photos for you if you wish. If you supply me with the names of your 'family' I'll do my best to find them for you and relay the grave condition. The cemetery was shaken up during the quakes (as were we all!) but as far as I know it is open still.Let me know if I can be of help
