CLAYPOLE / GUTTRIDGE - Medbourne
« on: Tuesday 07 January 14 12:31 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to place an 'orphan' on my CLAYPOLE tree. I have seen a copy of the will of Henry Claypole of Medbourne - proved London, January 8th 1824.

He had a son, John - who was his executor and a daughter, Mary, who was married to a ???? GUTTRIDGE (can't decipher the old script with certainty - could be Francis)

My possible candidate Henry was born in Medbourne in 1745 but have no other information (eg wife or children). Any further information would be gratefully received.

Regards Alan
Leicester / Northampton: Craxford,  Claypole, Pridmore, Pollard, Tansley, Crane, Tilley
Derby: Naylor, Ball, Haywood
Buckinghamshire: Cook
London: Craxford, Lane Crauford
Tyneside: Nessworthy, Simpson

Hi Alan
Had a look and the son in law is indeed Francis Gutteridge of Leicester. There is also a daughter Ann who got the china.
Looking at parish records.
Henry Claypole married Elizabeth Green at Medbourne cum Holt 6/11/1787 and had 3 children.
Mary 31/5/1789 ,John 10/8/1793 and Ann 24/8/1799.All at Medbourne.
Can't find a marriage for Mary but it looks like them.
ps. Francis and Mary have a daughter Mary baptised at St Margret's Leicester 28.4.1830.
Hope that helps a bit

Hi C

Many thanks. That's most helpful.

Just wondered - is there any reference to the death of burial of Henry Claypole in 1823 in Medbourne which would confirm his age (and therefore 'my' Henry)?  The will was signed in December 1882. My Henry was baptised on December 4th 1745

Cheers Alan

He certainly fits the dates

and there is this one

MEDBOURNE CUM HOLT   ELIZABETH   CLAYPOLE   MEDBOURNE CUM HOLT   25-Jul   1820   age 61

This looks like his wife - or could have been the wife of Henry's brother, Richard. Both named Elizabeth - both born around 1750-60!

Many thanks, Willsy

That certainly fills in a couple of niches in the tree
