Arthur John Harper b1886 Lambeth
« on: Saturday 11 January 14 10:52 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the above who was baptised as Arthur 1897 at Lambeth St John the Evangelist but birth recorded as Arthur John, son of Robert and Elizabeth, the latter died before 1900, so Arthur was living with his sister, Edith and brother in law Robert Rosser at 4 Secker Street, Lambeth.
Now at 1911 he is either living at 10a Library Street, Borough Road, Southwark or at 40 Grosvenor Road Manningham Bradford Yorkshire as they both show on the censuses.
I can find no marriage, death or emigration for him.
Help please.

Good morning
I'm sorry to say I think I've found his death on the Great War roll of honour.
Arthur John Harper died 1.7.1916 from East Dulwich Private in the Machine Gun Corps ,Enlisted at Bradford 22.12.1915 no 22743 originally West Yorkshire Regiment.
buried Euston road Cemetery,Colincamps ,the Somme.

I see from the 1911 census he was living in Bradford so the enlistment would fit.
There is a medal card for him on Ancestry but I can't spot any service papers.

Sorry but it does explain why you can't find a marriage or a 'normal' death for him.

Hi Ciderdrinker,
Seems a very good explanation for the one who was in Bradford at 1911 but what of the one who was in Southwark at the same time.
Does the Roll gives his parents or relations?

Hi ciderdrinker,
Looks like he could be the one, found his casualty details on the CWGC site and it records his parents as William and Elizabeth M Harper of Lindon, I guess they could have his father wrong and perhaps Lindon means London?

There's a baptism for Arthur John Harper - 1886 - Lambeth - parents William and Elizabeth.  So looks like the one who died in WWI wasn't yours.

I think Arthur John Harper (in Bradford 1911) and Arthur Harper who was in Southwark in 1911 are 2 different people

there is a baptism
Arthur John Harper
baptism 2 May 1886
St Andrew Lambeth
son of William & Elizabeth Maria
address 5 Duke St
father's occ labourer

He appears as Arthur John on census and it looks like he is the one who was killed in WW1

Arthur Harper who was living with sister Edith in 1901 I think is the one in Southwark in 1911 - I cannot find any record of him with the middle name John???

If you   look  at the 1891 census  , there's  a  rather large gap  between Arthur   aged 4   and the child  above  ( Mabel) aged  12,  I suppose  it  is  possible that  Elizabeth  could   have  been 50    when  he was born ,( and a  few children  died in  between , )   but   it wouldn't be the  first time that  a grandchild   was  passed off  as a  son/daughter

Robert Harper  55
 Elizh M Harper  54
 Louisa Harper  25
 Samuel Harper  21
 Edith Harper  17
 Lydia Harper  19
 William Harper  14
 Mabel Harper  12
Arthur Harper  4 ............. born Lambeth

Arthur John Harper
birth reg FreeBMD
Jun qtr 1886
Lambeth 1d 323

I don't think this can be Arthur son of Robert & Elizabeth as baptism of Arthur Harper 1897 Lambeth son of (Thomas (crossed out) Robert & Elizabeth gives d.o.b. as 18 Aug 1886 -so he wouldn't have birth recorded in Jun qtr???

It looks like this Arthur didn't have the middle name John - I can't find it on any records?? Where did you find the middle name??
