There is no Bramley Street in Stepney 1871, now I have 4 Blackwall Harbour, Poplar, and I'm told there was no number 4. What now? I'm looking for the Nichols and Custance Families
Any help greatly appreciated

I have a marriage certificate where the grooms place of residence is given as Middleton Co Middlesex. I can't find any reference to Middleton in Middlesex let along the Co bit. Any ideas anyone?

Mistyrose,

I have been puzzling over this Middleton, Middlesex.  I was born and brought up in what used to be Middlesex (since swallowed up by Greater London, except in postal addresses) and I thought I knew it pretty well, but could not come up with anything even vaguely like an answer.  So I googled Middleton, Middlesex and found that there is apparently a Middleton in Middlesex County in Connecticut, USA!  It may be stretching a bit, but it makes you pause for thought.
The website I found was
www.probertencyclopaedia.com
Click on the Gazeteer link -  you can look up where lots of places are or were.

Nell

PS I've had another session with the map and the magnifying glass since I posted the above.  I wonder if it should read Littleton Co meaning Littleton Common which is about 3 miles south-west of Staines.  Perhaps he had a cold when he said Littleton - hold your nose and say it out loud - or the minister was hard of hearing.

What do you think?

Hello Nell,
Tried the site. I can't see my William in the USA as he was only a humble Agricultural labourer possibly from the workhouse. I did have a thought  that perhaps the spelling was Myddleton and not Middleton. There is a Myddleton house at Bulls Cross near Enfield in Middlesex. I looked on the place search on the 1901 site and there was also a Myddleton Farm........ it's the "Co" that I can't understand. Co for County could be the explaination or company [Where he worked]?
or another institution...... just mystified!!!!!!!
