Hi

Is this related to your query about another Hudson here?
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=674549.msg5195292#msg5195292

Are you trying to confirm anything in particular or trying to eliminate possibles.

If so - it might be useful to post what you have already and what you are trying to confirm.

Yes..im dredging through the medal index cards to find a cw or a c or a w Hudson with 5 combat bars for the 2nd boer war. I cant believe he doesnt show up on any of the search engines or databases. 5 bars to the QSA medal arn't  all that common. So, he had to be in a regiment that wasnt a supply o service one regiment. He always joked apparantly he was in the "boer war, front row". I just cant find anything on the man. He also went by the name of "Bill" so i presume, if he didnt sign up under his real name, Charles, he probably signed up under William.

3356 was William Henry Hudson. Here is a link to his record on Findmypast - http://www.findmypast.co.uk/army-service-records-show-image.action?sdrfnbr=975175084

Added...Here is the medal roll - http://tinyurl.com/omsdkna He was in South Africa until 1901, so would be entitled to the South Africa 1901 clasp as well. This would have been issued 1-2 years later, and as he was discharged in 1903 he would not have had the benefit of the regiment attaching it to the other clasps with proper rivets. If you have the medal you may see evidence of it having been once attached. Some men used wire or thread. Over the years most fell apart and the clasp was lost. Other men merely looped it on to the ribbon.

Medal roll for the 1901 clasp - http://tinyurl.com/qd9uhnm

Note the date it was compiled. As the medal roll does not say the clasp was returned to the medal office, he also certainly received it.

Ken,

Nice finds, but . . . .

Only those who have a subscription to Ancestry and FindMyPast can see the images?! ::)

Ken, im subscribed to ancestry and forces war records but not...FindMyPast..and your link doesnt work if your not.. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
But thanks for the help...i still dont know if its him or not though. If he wasnt from Hull, it's not him. I cant find anything on this guy. Theres no suggestion that he signed up under another name, as he reappears on the 1911 census married with kids under his own name. Maybe the fact he liked to be called Bill just made him sign up under the name William. Without more definate evidence im just clutching at straws for the moment.
