« on: Tuesday 21 January 14 10:57 GMT (UK) »
  Hi :)

James was born in Cromarty Scotland 27 Jul 1797, his father was James Anderson
mother was Mary Dunbar. He attended Marischal College Aberdeen 1825 - 1829 and was
ordained to Ormstown Canada in 1835. He was a Presbyterian Minister and became Minister
to St Paul's Prebyterian Church.

I would like to know his marriage date and the names of any children. His wife was Christian Nicol.James died in April 1864, his wife 25 Mar 1874. I can't find a headstone record for James. I have one for Christian , dau Mary 1861 and dau Catherine 1870.

Thanks

Joy

You can also access images of the registers
https://familysearch.org
look for Canada --> Quebec, Non-Catholic Parish Registers, 1763-1967

For example here is the image of the marriage in 1839:

Marriage a daughter 03/08/1866 http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~qchuntin/gleaner/1866.htm
R. S. Park merchant of Hawkesbury, Canada West, married Eliza Anderson, second daughter of the late Rev. James Anderson at the residence of the bride's mother in Durham...so she'd moved (Durham-Sud, QC?)
But I see she's buried in St-Paul's Presbyterian (United) ChurchOrmstown http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~qcchatea/cemeteries/orms_pres/inscript.htm#29

a tree for Christina  Anderson & Joseph Patenaude  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/SB6Q-G35

It doesn't sound as though they had much money, so might speculate Christian might only afford a wooden cross...

Thanks J.J. for that information, it is a great help :)

Google books have no information on Reverend James Anderson, so that's a bit of a

disappointment. Are you able to tell me where I might be able to find a photo of James'

headstone (if he had one, I'd be surprised if he didn't!) and possible a photo of James

himself :-\

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated :)

If you look at the graves in East Church Cromarty, there is an "Anderson, Rev James" with ref number 64. with a Mary Dunbar under same #...  http://www.eastchurchcromarty.co.uk/archive.asp?
Might the father have sent for him to be buried there? Something to look into...as no dates given.

When looking for the proper url to that  ( was a doc file) I saw you had that information on another rootschat thread on the Scotland board....
Here is the other thread for others searching http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=673990.0

I see now that down on that same page it says erected his mother's gravestone in her memory

One may have to conclude that his gravestone is either vandalized and gone, too deteriorated to read, flat with the ground and now buried, or it was wooden...His wife would not have had a lot of money once he died, but one would think his congregation would have helped out...Maybe you can get there one day and sleuth through it...

Here is a page explaining movement of stones ( & remains?)  Perhaps they may have some information for you on stones that were illegible.... contact info for the transcriber at bottom of page
