Bradford Pals/West Riding Regiment
« on: Saturday 25 January 14 16:37 GMT (UK) »
 Hello,

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to researching WW1 and so thought it better to consult experts in rootschat!

My grandfather enlisted in Bradford Dec 1915 and on his service medals it says his regiment number was 267488 West Riding Regiment.  I am told from family members that he was injured at Passchendaele.  What I am trying to establish is whether he was in the Bradford Pals-was this the same as the West Riding Regiment or was it something completely different.  Also, if anyone has any other info on him, for instance, when he was injured and where he was treated/discharged etc.  His name was Arthur Aldersley (born 1894).  Thank you for any help that is given

Hi Dianer
They were different....your man was a Territorial soldier in the West Riding Regiment.
Bradford pals were 16th and 18th Battalions of the West Yorkshire Regiment.

Only 30 % of records survive and are on ancestry.
Was he from Bradford?
He will have a medal index card online.
Maybe on the Bradford Roll of honour...the library has a card system that has the wounded soldiers listed if they had a report in local paper.

Hes on the bradford roll of honour living at 219 Sticker lane.
He served in 6th west Ridings which rings true with his number.

Have a google of Cravens part in the Great War.....this is an online resource which covers the history of the battalion.
Unfortunately hes not on the original nominals in book.

:)Thank you very much for this information.  It is really useful.  I can confirm that Arthur lived at Sticker Lane and will check out the library and have a look at google as you have suggested.

Thanks, once again.
