Completed with Thanks - Lancashire lads end of WW1.
« on: Monday 27 January 14 02:20 GMT (UK) »
Is it possible to identify what regiment etc this would be - my father is bottom left & he was born in Blackburn, Lancs & worked as a firebeater in a Cotton Mill so I don't think he would move far away from home at that stage.
Illingworth,  Robinson - Thornton West Yorkshire
Pickles - Ripponden & Elland area West Yorkshire
Clark - Manningham Bradford, West Yorkshire
McLoughlin, McCleary, Cesnan, Rooney - Lancashire, Sligo.

since you dont indicate your dads name.....   put his name into anc or the british national archives search engine or cwgc site and see what pops.......

i must first warn you that some of the ww1 files are missing after a fire during ww2 so if he is not there then put a post up on the military board and someone will help you with records etc.....

good luck
 :)

His name was Thomas McLoughlin born 1900 Blackburn - just one of many.  He survived & I have tried National Records including Ancestry but I think he joined at the end of WW1 - he went on to join the RIC before coming to New Zealand in 1929.  I am hoping that if I find out what the Regiment was I might get more info on the correct guy.  I will put it up on the Military part.
Many thanks for replying.
Anita.

My advice would be to join and post the photograph here http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/ and I guarantee that you'll get more information than you can shake a stick at!

The cap badges are Prince of Wales feathers over a scroll.  This could be Wesh regt, 3rd Dragoons, 10th Hussras or my personal preference Cheshire Yeomanry.

The webbing is the old leather style often worn by yeomanry and Volunteer battalions.

Many thanks for the information - as suggested I have also put the photo on the Great War Forum & will let you all know the outcome (if any) from that site.

Hi

At first glance, the cap badge looks like the "XII Royal Lancers". It also looks like these chaps were going through their basic training.
