Hi David,
I've had a look at my pile of papers but can not help with Alexander's father. I've got the early 1800 Jollys in parish groups. So far I've three groupings for Arbuthnott. John Jolly and Christian Garvie (five children one of whom is Robert of the Bamff farm fame). Alexander Jolly and Margaret Grant (also five children one of whom is Robert who marries Isabel Bisset - your 3XGF I hope!). Then a William Jolly and a Margaret Inglis (not sure how many children but at least one Francis in the list). Both John and Alexander start their families around the same time (1770s) but William is later (1790s).
The parish groupings are probably a false construct but I need some way to manage the families. I should add this is very much a work in progress and the only family group I'm near to completing is John Jolly and Margaret Brand of Fordoun (9 children first born 1776 - I have death certs for 6 of them). I'm thinking of buying stock in SP!
I'm hoping to leave family history until the winter as I need to get my skates on and start sowing seeds and digging my veggie plot.
