Ferdinand HIX of Lympsham
« on: Thursday 30 January 14 15:23 GMT (UK) »
Would someone be able to have a squint at the 1841 census entry for this man, perhaps using FindMyPast?  He's just above half way down the RH page - I can give census ref if allowed/required but the index should find him.  I have the A******y copy but the whole page is very faint and try as I might I can't make out the occupation.  Rather stupidly, when I downloaded the copy at the library I didn't think to note the transcript details.  Baps from 1813 had him as a farmer or yeoman but the 1841 census seems to begin with P.

Other members in household (according to A*y) are another Ferdinand HIX plus servants Wm STEPLE, Sarah DURPHY & Jane STEVENS.

best wishes
Jane :-)

I tried to attach a better image but it seems  not to be allowed. So here's a link

Certainly "Plumber", but there's something fainter underneath which could well be "Farmer".

It seems to match the occupation entered for the head of the next household, which is "Farmer". Perhaps there was a muddle with him ... or perhaps it should have been Ferdinand Junior shown as a "Plumber". Unusual for an adult man to have no occupation shown.

You can't add attachments to a post in a ". . . Lookup Requests" board! ::)

Thanks to everyone and in particular to David for the extremely clear image.

I'm inclined to go with the overwritten "farmer" as it makes no sense for Ferdy to be a plumber.  In due course I'll chase Ferdy junior through subsequent censuses to see if he became a plumber (Ferdy senior died 1842) but I don't expect this to be the case.

best wishes
Jane :-)
