Dean-Wrigley Marriage 1809, Man Cath - Unreadable Word
« on: Thursday 30 January 14 18:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I've just located the marriage record of my 4x gt grandparents Samuel Dean & Elizabeth Wrigley on Ancestry. There is however one word that I cannot read. I think it may be his occupation but I'm not sure.

Samuel Dean married Elizabeth Wrigley (Transcribed as Higley but definately Wrigley) on 9th November 1809 at Manchester Cathedral.

It reads "Samuel Dean of this parish & town of Manchester ? Elizabeth Wrigley of Manchester, Spinster." The question mark is the word that i cannot read.

I apologise for not posting the part of the image in question but I don't really know how to go about cutting bits out of documents etc.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Hi Mosiefish,

Many thanks for your reply, very much appreciated.

I did wonder if it was Ostler, but wasn't at all sure as the writing isn't great. Samuel was by 1813 a Blacksmith. So I guess Ostler would be right.

My book of old trades gives Ostler as 'Someone who takes care of horses', which Blacksmiths did as well.

Many thanks.

Kind regards
