Thomas Batty - Callico Printer
« on: Wednesday 05 February 14 21:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am currently struggling trying to find information regarding my 4x gt grandfather Thomas Batty, a Callico Printer by trade.

He appears to have married three times & I am aware of three definate children.

The only baptism I can find for a Thomas Batty at around the right time is this one - Thomas Battye to James & Hannah Battye on 26th July 1801 at Manchester Cathedral.

The first child Sarah (b1825 from censuses) baptised 23rd September 1827 to Thomas & Elizabeth Batty at Manchester Cathedral, with Thomas's occupation as Painter. This again is the only baptism for a Sarah that I can find.

Thomas then marries for the second time to an Elizabeth Rose on 3rd September 1829 at Man Cath. Both descibed as Widower & widow respectively & Thomas a Callico Printer.

Son William Batty buried 16th Oct 1832 again at Man Cath, Parents Thomas & Eliz, Abode Red Bank (this address matches with the address given on Sarah's marriage cert in 1846.) No baptism for William found yet.

1841 Census (HO107/573/2/42/32. Thomas aged 45 a Callico Printer, Wife Ann & Daughters Sarah 15 & Emma 9. No baptism for Emma yet either.

Thomas dies sometime between 1841 & 1861 as Ann Batty is living with Emma in 1861 & described as widow(Ann that is not Emma.)

Sarah married George Gibson 1st Jan 1846 at Man Cath (My 3x gt grandparents.)
Emma married Robert Christie 3rd June 1852 at Man Cath. On both Certs Thomas is shown as a Printer.

So I am missing the first & third marriages, also Thomas & Emma are missing in 1851. Not to mention the baptisms of William & Emma, which I also cannot find.

I should point out that I am aware of the marriage of Thomas Batty to Betty Quarmby at Man Cath in 1821, but this Thomas is a Collier unfortunately.

Any & all help/assistance with this will be very much appreciated as i just seem to be going round in circles with this one!

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David
