Vincent Moore of Middlesbrough
« on: Saturday 08 February 14 11:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find out about the life of Vincent Moore. He was born in Felling, Co. Durham, in 1896. Sometime after 1911 he moved to Middlesbrough and he died there in 1985. If anyone knows of the man and can give me any further information about him I would be most grateful. One piece of unverifiable information that we have is that he worked in local Government, Mayor??
Regards
Pete

Hi Pete,

I had a quick look at the Evening Gazette 1985.  Found a death notice for Vincent dated

Monday February 11th. He passed away in hospital on February 8th.

The notice goes on to name some family members, and church service prior to interment
at Eston cemetery.     As yet I have not come across any information about his life.

Will look some more next week for you.

 Eddie.

I haven't seen the Gazette article but if he was interred at Eston cemetery then likelihood is he will have lived around the Eston / Normanby area which is classed as part of the borough of Redcar & Cleveland.

If you haven't already you could try contacting the Normanby Local History Group to see if they can help:

Hi if he was the Vincent Moore born 7th February 1896 Felling Durham then he was in the Merchant Navy, Rating Musician/Steward? Discharge No: R136426 5' 8" Eyes Blue Complexion Fair Hair Grey looks like he was discharged 17th? December 1935

He signed a declaration that he was not now in possession of an unfilled continuous certificate of discharge, for the following reason "First Ship"

Maybe someone more knowledgeable in these matters could assist in interpreting!

He seems to have made two trips on the P&O vessel KAISER-I-HIND official number 128653. one as a Musician/ass Steward from 6 June 1935 until 13 Sept 1935 London UK via Yokohama, Kobe, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Penang, Colombo, Bombay, Port Said, Malta, Marseilles, Gibraltar and Tangier discharge port London UK.
The other voyage from 7 Dec 1935 until 7 March 1936 London UK via Bombay, Aden, Port Said, Malta, Marseilles, Gibraltar and Tangier discharge port London UK. For this voyage he gives his DOB 1899 and he was employed as a Ass Steward/Violinist
The logbooks and Crew agreements for the dates in question are available from here
