Seeking a death in 1908
« on: Tuesday 18 February 14 09:29 GMT (UK) »
I have a Morton family letter written in 1910.

Mention is made of John Morton and Andrew Morton.

Someone then pencilled in 'Died in London unmarried about two years ago,  1908'.

It is written close to both names so not sure which Morton it is referring to.  Any help really appreciated.

Have you tried looking on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

How old would these chaps be?

There's a John Morton age 66 who died in 1907 in Barnet- could be considered to be London for someone a distance away ;D

I guess age range 60-70 so the Barnet one looks good,  thanks.

Have you found either in 1901- so we can find out if they survived after that?

No.  Dont have access to 1901 census of England.

With so little info known re: birthyears/birthplaces it's a gamble finding the right one as there are 6 Andrew Morton entries in London in 1901

Thanks - I know they were born in Ireland which might help narrow it down.

If they were born Ireland - there is no 1901 entry - the letter couldn't mean Londonderry could it?

Definitely says London, 1908.

Couldn't find in Irish census of 1901 either so back to the drawing board!
