I know this is not really a family history topic, but I am researching the history of the Liverpool Road in Islington, and read today that Herbert Asquith lived down the road as a teenager but can't find where.  I do however know that he was a parishioner at the Union Chapel at Upper Street, Islington.

If anyone has any interesting facts or stories on the Liverpool Road it would be great to hear.

Hi - I'm afraid I don't have access to censuses, but I see he was lodging with a "dispensary doctor"
in 1864. If you could get someone to do a lookup of Liverpool St on the 1861 census, it might give you a clue (though of course the Dr may not have been at the same address in 1864)
Looks like he'd moved on by 1871,as he went to Oxford.

Everlea.

1861 census - Herbert Henry was at home at 56 West Parade, Huddersfield with his mother and siblings - RG9/3265 folio 71 page 10.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I thought that looking for the Dr in Liverpool St in 1861 might give a clue as to who it was HHA was lodging with in 1864. Just a thought.

Everlea - do you have the doctor's name?  I see that Wikipedia says that HHA was sent to stay with an uncle in London in 1863, and subsequently entered the City of London School.  If we knew who the doctor was, then we might be able to find the address in the 1861 census  :-\

Sorry, I don't. I saw the info when I Googled HHA & thought that a look at the 1861 census by street name might throw up the name of the Dr. A long shot, I know.
Wish I still had my FindMyPast sub!

Joseph Donald is one possibility http://livesonline.rcseng.ac.uk/biogs/E001433b.htm

He was at 535 Liverpool Road in 1871, and 31 Paradise Terrace in 1861

He could well be the one - the entry I read referred to him as a "dispensary Dr."
I bet you're right - well done!

There was more than one dispensary on Liverpool Road in the 1860's, plus the Royal Free, so there may be other candidates!
