"McGOWAN - 1879 Roman Catholic Baptism - Canterbury CD look-up please"

I have another McGowan thread, but as James [Ingram] McGown/McGowan/MACGOWN b. in Greenpark NZ May 23 1878 (as per 1901 Canada Census) cannot be found in NZ records a Roots Chat member suggested this look-up. I have found 3 male McGown/McGowan's but James McGown was b. Nov 1879 and there is a Hugh James and a John McGowan, whom I don't believe is James Ingram McGowan.

James was listed as RC in the census and his children in Canada were listed in the Drouin Collection.

Here is the Intention to Marry Notice you requested. Please note that the name of the bride differs from the name you provided. I did see an ITM notice listed in the card index for a 'Margaret SHEA' for the following year, 1877, and registered at Wanganui.

Dated 13 January: James MCGOWAN, bachelor, a Plasterer aged 21 years living at Christchurch, length of residence 1 year, intends to marry Bridget O’SHEA, spinster, a Servant aged 18 years living at Christchurch, length of residence 1 year, in the Scotch Church, Tuam Street, Christchurch. What was I thinking, I have a birth record not a marriage record with James McGown plasterer father and Margaret Shea mother, who was from Kerry Castle Ireland or possibly Castleisland Kerry.

Without having any information on James Ingram McGowan's parents the only information I have is his name, the birthdate he put on the 1901 census (May 23, 1878), and the birth area on his youngest daughter's birth certificate of Greenpark NZ. Information from other Rootschat members have me thinking that John and James are sons of Mary Jane and James McGowan.

I will post another thread in hopes of finding anything in probate records, as suggested.

I've checked the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Canterbury baptism database and there is nothing to be had for a "James" (or "John") McGOWAN in or around the given timeframe.  Have also checked variant spellings of the surname (as the baptism index is unfortunately littered with incorrect spellings).
