Welcome to RootsChat.

If there is no father's name on your father's birth certificate, that probably means that his mother wasn't married.

When did she die, and do you know how old she was?

Thank you, got no other details, only she was a cook at 25 Foxon Lane garden Caterham, my dad knew her when she visited foster home, but only knew her as an Aunt, and then the twins were moved to be taken care of in Redhill, Gladys married later and had a son under the name  Marshall, address was Stanford End Swallowfield Surrey. Dad twin sister died few years ago now, but his Sister  Not sure what direction to go, thank you for any help you can give.

There is this marriage:

Gladys M Allen
William Marshall
Sept quarter 1941
Basingstoke Hampshire
2C 865

Then birth of a child, surname Marshall, mother's maiden name Allen in 1942 Dec quarter Wokingham Berkshire. Is this child still alive, if so you need to remove the name from your post as we are not allowed to mention any living people?

There is the death of a Gladys Mary Marshall in Wokingham in Nov 1998. Her date of birth was 19th March 1911.

Does any of this ring any bells?

last address was Stanford End Swallowfield Surrey.

Stanford End, Swallowfield is actually in Berkshire rather than Surrey - so would fit with the Wokingham findings.

The 1911 census shows a female infant Allen enumerated as "Not Christined" Allen, in Swallowfield:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X7LN-9G2 (free index)

Added: and a nameless baby girl Allen, born in Swallowfield but living in Shinfield (perhaps this is Stella?):

Looks as if that could be the right family.

We are not allowed to give information from the 1911 census on here, but you could try FamilySearch or 1911 free census  http://www.1911census.co.uk/

When you have found " Not Christined" Allen   (NOTE THE SPELLING, it has to be this, Christened doesn't work)

Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else

In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district

In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index ie Not Christined Allen

Click SEARCH

You will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same name in the same household

Glady's birth certificate would also give her parent's names.

I agree with groom that "Not Christined" Allen is very likely to be Gladys, and that it would be worthwhile investing in a few credits to ascertain the full details of the household, including the residential address, in 1911.

Although her birth must have been registered close in time to that of Stella Allen, it looks as though they were not twins, & not sisters.
