Sandra, thanks for all the info.

I don't have access to American files. My 2nd great uncle Robert Furber, from Bristol, UK, sailed to USA around 1859.

He lived, worked and married in Massachusetts. His wife Elizabeth died in 1874. With his daughter Mary he returned, a wealthy man, to Bristol between 1881 and 1900. I've never been able to find them on any passenger lists. Can you help please?

Is this Robert on the 1860 census Newburyport Ward 3, Essex, Massachusetts  before he married Elizabeth Horrigan 25 September 1867 Boston MA.

Amos Tappan   54 Elizabeth Tappan 54
George H Lyford   31 Harriet E Lyford   28
Mary B Lyford   6 Elizabeth T Lyford   4
Hattie F Lyford   3
Ann M Follansbee 41
Mary Quill   25
Robert Furber 22 born England 1838.

UK Incoming passenger lists started about 1878 but they are not very comprehensive, some may be missing which doesn't help.  :-\

I was aware of those records thanks Sandra.

After 1880 in Mass. the next record I have is the UK census of 1901 when Robert, a widower, was back in Bristol and married again.

He became a market gardener and land owner, funded the building of a Wesleyan Church on his land and left various charitable funds. I've never been able to discover how he became so wealthy (as a gardener) in those missing 20 years.

Thanks for the quick response Sandra.

I can't see the link here. My Mary Elizabeth Furber was born in Mass. 23 May 1870 to Elizabeth and Robert Furber. Her mother Elizabeth died of TB in 1874.

You should have said exactly what info you were looking for - we are aware from your post above that you already have some records.
Would presume Mary E Furber was born in Framlington which is where Elizabeth died.
There would be no further census record for Robert and Mary after 1880. Haven't found them on a returning UK passenger list as I said there is no comprehensive list, many are unrecorded or are missing.

Yes, born in Framlington.

Thanks for all your help Sandra. It was very useful to make contact with Arum Lily and I was able to give her plenty of information.
