FindMyPast census address search
« on: Monday 03 March 14 22:35 GMT (UK) »
As you know FindMyPast has completely revised its site.  I used to find the old address search option for censuses really useful on occasion.  It's probably that I can't work out how to do it on the new site but this option seems to have disappeared.  Can anyone enlighten?

Hi I must still be on the "Old" FindMyPast, are you saying that when you click on Census, Land & Survey Records their are not the 2 options to "Search by person" or "Search by address"?

I wish I could get back to the old one.  This one seems like fixing something that aint broke.  I suppose I need to get used to it....."change?" who said I can't cope with change  :)

This is what they say (I presume I'm not violating any copyright?):

I do hope they haven't got rid of the address search, that was very useful. I must still be on the old site, I think they said they were switching people over gradually.

Yes, they did, and they also said we would be notified by email when the switch was made.

This is what you get, as near as I can reproduce

"Census, Land & Surveys"

Boxes for the following:

Who (= names obviously)
When (Year) + (Year of Birth) + (Year of death [not sure why you need that for census/ land etc])
Where
Other household member
Address  House number                         Start typing a house name
             Browse house name =button
Start typing a street                  Browse street =button

So, there are three address boxes: house number, house name and street. I thought you would just type in the street name and it would come up with choices, as it did in the old version. Not so, as far as I can tell.  Type in Spa Road (=Bermondsey) date 1851. It gives you 43,268,578 returns!
There are 2 buttons for browsing a list.  Click on Browse Street and you get everything from 'A' to 'Z'.  There is a search filter within Browse Street.  If you search on Spa Road, you can actually find it.  However, try for example 'George Street' Middlesex (it's in St George Hanover Square), and you get an endless list with any permutation that includes the words "George Street" e.g. "Back of George Street Old Bake House".  I may be missing a trick here, but the old system was so easy.
