Thomas Bishop: Surgeon of Tenterden

Hello,
I am interested in finding information about Thomas Bishop, a surgeon in Tenterden.  What I know of him so far: He is the son of Samuel Bishop and Mary nee Plaine, was born in the 1st half of 1759 in Newenden, and died in 1843 in Tenterden.  I have a copy of his will which states his wife is named Susan.  His children were William, Samuel and Thomas.  Most of this family is recorded on the website www. home-computer.co.uk but, he is shown as Thomas Bishop of Northiam married to Mary King.  As all these places are close together, he may be one and the same person, married twice.  The will copy I have is very difficult to read and the only other name I can make out is William Waterman who may have been an Apothecary.  I have not been able to find any marriage for a Thomas Bishop to Susan.  The other sound bit of identity is his son Thomas was in the Royal Navy.  Thomas the surgeon and his sons are also named in the will of Samuel Bishop who died in Newenden in 1837.  The difficulty is finding the correct wives.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Just having a peep at the will, definitely wife Susan and William Waterford gentleman and William Hope Waterman are appointed as executors.

Seems to refer to a David William Bishop, only son of my late son Thomas.   So looks as if son Thomas has predeceased him.    Most of his estate seems to go to either his wife or this grandson.

When the Will is proved in 1844, it seems it is Samuel Bishop of Buenos Aires, who is to administer it for Susan etc. And he is described as only survivng child .

Yes, have all the entries from Newenden.  The Mary Bishop mentioned is the mother of this Thomas and another of "my" wives whose lineage is very elusive.  She is nee Plaine, and I think we have corresponded about her before.  A brother of Thomas is the Iden Bishop also in the Newenden MI's.
It looks as if this Thomas may have married more than once, seeing the Susan from the census is so much younger.  I have found documentation of wedding dates for his brothers and sisters, but unable to find a wedding date for him and Susan.  I do have wedding information for his son Thomas plus births of the children of his son Thomas, i.e. Anna Maria and David Williams Bishop, who as it happens married his cousin Charlotte Smith Bishop, and Anna Maria died at an early age.  His other sons; Samuel lived in Buenos Ayres, and I am still trying to find what happened to him.  William may have married Mary Ann Austen, and still trying to find out if I have the correct William.  The family tends to be awash with William, Samuel, Thomas, in every generation plus within the same generation and getting them mixed up is a very easy task!  Do you know if Tenterden has a town museum or if the history of the people of Tenterden is easily accessable?  Just found that the Watermans named in the will of Thomas are attorney's.

Have you tried the Sussex Marriage Index for a marriage to Susan?  - it's not far.

Tenterden does have a museum.  I have approached them before about a family history matter but they didn't get back to me - you may have more luck.

Also found a William who was a surgeon in Tenterden and penciled him in as the son but will try to find verification.  Am going to have another try at deciphering the will with my new glasses.
