John Greenwood
« on: Tuesday 04 March 14 15:56 GMT (UK) »
John Greenwood was born in 1791 in Heptonstall and married Betty Sutcliffe in 1807.  Betty died in 1821 aged 30.  (I am assuming that it is the same Betty).  A John Greenwood married Mary Crabtree in 1840.  They had both been widowed.  He was 49 and she was 42.  I would like to establish if this was the same John Greenwood who had married Betty.

His father's name was William but John's first marriage to Betty was before the father's name appeared on the marriage details.

I understand that - that's why I was asking about the 1840 marriage :)

So you've got a John son of William who was born/baptised in 1791 and who married Mary Crabtree in 1840, but you can't be sure whether he had first married Betty Sutcliffe in 1807 - is that right?

Are there children from the marriage to Betty enumerated with John & Mary in any census?

There were several children born to John and Betty but none are living with John and his second wife in 1841.  I think one child died at the age of 19 and the others had married.
