re Mary Trotter born 21/04/1806 Dunino Fife

Hi having trouble with this lass. From the census 1861 1871 she goes by her single name but has grandchildren with the same name Trotter and Strachan.Its possible she is the Mary Trotter who married JOhn Hunter in 1828 they have 3 children then he disappears cant find death either. Her grandson David Trotter is being nursed by strangers the night of the 1851 census and is with her still on 1861 census which implies his mother is no longer with them, but who was his mother.?
as well i cant find any marriage of trotter /strachan.
Can anyone help or could she be unwed mother ?Is there an explanation?

All b Dunfermline except Adam.  No relationship shown for Philps and Kirk

These are from FS but mothers names don't tie in with the Trotter/Hunter etc etc

As both Strachan children were born after 1855 - have you checked Scotlands People for their births?

Have you checked SP for David's birth on the Old Parish Registers

Hello Ruthsaff.
     Mary Trotter & her 3 grandchildren's address: William St, Household Schedule No:127.
     Christina Philp's address: William St, Household Schedule No:128.
     Adam Kirk's address: William St, Household Schedule No:129.
3 different households. An An***try failing running several households together as one!
     Also, if Trotter is Mary's maiden name (lots of women use their maiden name on Census Returns) possibly married name Hunter, have you tried looking for Hunter/Strachan marriage?
     (Clicked on this thread because my Rolland ancestors came from Dunino/Cameron/Carnbee area)
