Eliza Mary Prettyman, wife of William James Ingram
« on: Thursday 06 March 14 12:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello

My paternal great great grandmother was Eliza Mary Prettyman, born in 1853 and died 1942. She was wife of William James Ingram, whom was born in Great Yarmouth in 1856 and died in Bridgend, Wales in 1921. One of their children was George Percival B Ingram, whom married Rebecca Watkins in Neath in 1924.  :)

I was wondering if someone could help me find Eliza's parents. She too was born in Great Yarmouth to my knowledge.

my thanks

It looks like James and Eliza are her parents

What does her marriage certificate to William James Ingram say? Is the father listed as James?

my thanks

That posting looks a bit confusing antiquesam, what age is Eliza M Prettyman on the census?

Her mother was Eliza Steel, however the Elizabeth Steel at the bottom is over 82 years old.

I think that should be the 1861 Census

PRETTYMAN James   Head       M   45    Merchant Seaman        Suffolk - Gorleston
PRETTYMAN Elisa   Wife       M    44               Sussex - Southwick
PRETTYMAN Eliza D   Dau       U   9       Scholar        Norfolk - Great Yarmouth
STEEL Elizabeth       Mother   W   82               Suffolk - Claydon
PRETTYMAN George D    Son   U   22       Merchant Seaman     Middlesex - London

 RG9/1191 Folio: 7 Page: 7 Schedule: 36
Civil Parish: Great Yarmouth St Nicholas
Address: Row 136

Don't forget the relationship refers to the head of the family, so the 82 year old Elizabeth is the mother (probably in law) to James

I think Eliza was James' second wife.

From family search
James Edward Prettyman married Susan Plummer 26 July 1835 Gorleston, Suffolk

from FreeBMD
George Plummer Prettyman born Sept 1838 (looked at the original 1861 and it is George P Prettyman)
St.Geo Southwark 3 109

James Edward Prettyman married Eliza Steele June 1851
Gt.Yarmouth 13 601
