Wills in the Consistory Court of the Bishop of Chichester, 1482-1800
« on: Thursday 06 March 14 18:35 GMT (UK) »
Found a probate record for a potential ancestor, Richard FitzHenry als. Free, 1755, Worthing, Sussex.

Where can I get a copy of this will?  I have looked at West Sussex County Council website but cannot find any reference to ordering wills.

Richard died 5 Nov 1754 at Bury, Sussex, according to one source, which I had previously thought might be unreliable.  Finding this probate record gives more credence to the source, and reading the will itself would also (hopefully) help to prove that Richard was my 7G grandfather.

The alias of Free is intriguing, something I have not come across so far.

Sorry I missed this Margaret. I've just come back from the RO and could have got you the will ref so you could order it! I will put you on my list for next time. They have some wills on fiche so I could also have a quick squint if it's one of them giving you some idea of what it contains.

When you have the reference you can download a Reprographic request form here

Jan, Hope you are getting notification of this reply.  I have found another couple of Sussex Wills which I would like to order.  Went on West Sussex website again, still no indication of how to order Wills.

Searched Rootschat for 'Sussex Wills', found this previous post of mine - I had forgotten about it, and don't remember being notified of your reply!

Thank you very much for your information - are the references below what I need?   :-\

Barker, Thomas, Broadwater C 107 1585
Barker, Ann, widow, Brodewater 14 15b 1586

Thanks, Jan.

Perhaps a Christmas present for myself?  ;D
I'll contact them today.  Do they scan copies?

Margaret

I don't know whether they scan and email or send a paper copy. Lots of the wills are on fiche so they may just print from those.
