Emmanuel Jacob Abasi REFFELL, merchant seaman
« on: Tuesday 11 March 14 22:23 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am not sure where to put this but Emmanuel Jabob Abasi REFFELL was engaged as a greaser on the ship New Toronto in Liverpool in 1923 and married in Manchester to Gwendolin P RICHINSON in 1931. He was born in Calabar, South East Nigeria in 1900. After 1935 I have no information on him. There is a military merchant seaman record of him but I am unsure of the year. I am searching the place and year of his death and of his ancestry. Thank you for any information you can give me on him.

Kind regards,
Edwin Reffell

Is the first born son still alive?  If so - any info available from him? The second son - Brian - died 1986 in Norfolk

Did Gwendolin re-marry in 1977?

I do not know if the firstborn son is alive but Emmanuel Jacob Abasis's grandson has no information. Gwendolin remarried SIFFRE but I do not know when or where.

There is a military merchant seaman record of him but I am unsure of the year.

It's a civil rather than a military record - stamped 29 October 1931, Manchester.

Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

This is the record I meant. It is in FamilySearch. I am unsure if the record says he was in service from 1921 till 1941 or one particular year or more, i.e. part of that period.

Kind regards,
Edwin
