Harriett mary Smith missing birth certificate
« on: Wednesday 12 March 14 09:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi there
Can anyone offer suggestions. I have a forebear Harriett Mary Smith who was baptised St Bartholomew's church Sydenham 19/5/1867.The lds record states her parents as William and Eliza Smith. I have sent to the gro London for  birth certificates the first two came back with the wrong parents, deciding to give it one more shot I asked them to search one year either side and have received the answer no record found with these parents. I have Harriett with her mother on the 1881 census living in Lewisham prior to that if I am correct with her grandparents John and Esther Smith in the 1871 census. Harriett marries Frederick Wallis between the 1881 and 1891 Census and also sadly passes away during this time leaving a baby boy William, who in the 1891 Lewisham census resides with his father and grandmother Eliza Smith. I have the marriage certificate of Harriett and Frederick which states her father as William Smith. Any help would be great. Barbara :)

It's slightly unusual, but this doesn't show 19 May as the baptism date, it shows it as the birth date.

http://www.dustydocs.com/link/19/29381/93736/baptisms-1832-1867.html

(to complete the search, you'll need to put Harriet Mary Smith in the name boxes, 1867 in the date boxes and William and Eliza in the parents' names boxes down the l/h side of the page.)

All I can suggest is that you request a copy of the image - for free - from FS using this form.  There is quite a wait, but it may some extra info on it that will help you.

Regarding other children of William and Eliza Smith. I Was only able to find Eliza Smith on the 1881 and 1891 census not for any other years so no info on other children or reference to William Smith.
The Birth Certificates I received from the GRO were.
1. Harriett born 5/4/1868 Lewisham to James Smith and Eliza Lumbars his occupation Coachman.
2. Harriett Elizabeth born 20/1/1868 Warehorne Aldington East Ashford.to George Smith and Mary Ann Banks his occupation farm labourer.

Hi

Can you post the census details you have for Harriet, the new search on Ancestry, is useless with a name like Smith

The baptism shows William as a Dealer.
