Witness identification
« on: Saturday 15 March 14 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with how I should read the name of the second witness in this snippet of my ancesters' marriage certificate? Is this one person: Elener Luisa Emily Vinall, OR two: Elener Luisa and Emily Vinall, OR maybe Elener Luisa Vinall and Emily Vinall.

Also, can someone confirm the name of the officiant: Henry J ????

My guess is that there was one female witness - all names belonging to her.

Officiant - Henry H Hole [first letter looks a little like the 'K' of Kent, but the middle bar more like 'H' of Henry.
Seeking: RC baptism Philip Murray Feb ish 1814 ? nr Chatham Kent.

Sorry to differ, but I think it's Henry T. Hole.

Crockford's shows a Henry Tubal HOLE as serving at St James, Tunbridge Wells, in 1876.

;D I got carried away with the 'H's as I'd meant to copy the OP's middle intial 'J' without reading it  :-[.

Yes, it's like the 'T' of 'The' in the church name & nothing like the 'J of 'St. James'.

Have you tried looking for Elener on the 1871 census or for her birth?

I'm in agreement that all the names belong to the same person and perhaps the mark that looks like a comma may be a hyphen eg Elener-Luisa.

Also, Henry T Hole as the official.
Researching: Cronin / Nolan - Gortadrislig, Kerry
Finn/Clifford - Callinafercy and Scort, Kerry
Spillane - Milltown
Also:- Byrne / Tyrrell - Dublin

I think there are two witness names on the same line.

Emily Vinall is the second name on that line.

I wonder if the first name on that line is Elener Lewis - spelt incorrectly as Luise.

I don't know if it's all the name of one person, but to me Emily Vinall is written in a different hand than the rest. The E is different to Ebenezer and Elener, for a start. Makes it likely a separate person, but not definitely, I suppose.
