1901 Census Brickwall-Hill Family
« on: Saturday 15 March 14 15:55 GMT (UK) »
"My"Hill family consists of Richard (b. 1861 Liverpool -occupation-Ship's purser ), his wife Annie ( b. 1868 Shrewsbury ), daughter Alice ( b. 1890 Liverpool ), son Charles Victor ( b.1898 Liverpool ) and son Richard Henderson Hill ( b.1900 Birkenhead ).I can trace Annie and Alice living together on the 1891 census and almost the whole family on the 1911 census , but the 1901 census is giving me a headache. There's a Richard from Liverpool who is shown as a ship's fireman ( stoker? ), but I don't think that's "my" Richard. There's an 11 year old Alice shown who is living in Toxteth Park , but that's not "my" Alice as her father is shown as a James. I've found a 3 year old Charles Hill shown as a "boarder" but there's no sign of his mother Annie or other brother. As Richard was a sailor he may have been at sea when the census was taken, but the others? Has anyone got any suggestions?

Richard Henderson Hill was born 1900 in Birkenhead so unlikely they would be in Egerton Street. They are well hidden anyway :)

To all who have replied so far, thanks for your help. I'm glad it isn't just me who can't find them!Although Richard Hill was described as a "Ship's Purser" he is also described as a "Storekeeper" and even "Ship's Storekeeper"on Alice's marriage certificate ( 1915 )when the family lived in Upper Hill Street. From there they moved to Geraint Street as mentioned by Radcliff.I was very vaguely aware from an aunt of mine that Charles Victor Hill had died during the Second World War so thanks to welsh lady for further info on that.
