Teesside Archive/M'bro Library marriage look-up please
« on: Sunday 16 March 14 19:15 GMT (UK) »
Looking for a parish, marriage look-up please.

Harry Lorden Wood married Elsie Garbutt February 19th 1925, Stockton Parish Church.  Page 198 of certificate register.

I have a very poor photo copy of the certificate from the register entry and Harry's occupation has "faded" and is only partially visible.  Looks like P,  i e or r,  a t  and the rest is missing.

Is anyone visiting the archive/library(?) who could check this for me?

Many thanks

Ceeoh

Very many thanks Eddie.

What I have (photocopy) is of the original marriage certificate:

1925   Page 198
19th February  Harry Lorden Wood age 27 bachelor  (occupation?) 7 West Terrace Redcar, father George Wood Sergeant Major
Elsie Garbutt age 28, spinster 49 Bath Lane, father Hindson Garbutt  (occupation?)
The Parish Church - - - - - - in the Parish of Stockton-on-Tees

Basically all I need is Harry's occupation and the occupation of the father of the bride which I think could be bricklayer.

Most appreciated,

Ceeoh

That's great, thanks Eddie.  I would never have guessed Plater.  I knew he had been in the Grenadier Guards and had either served in the police or as a "Special" (police) - plater which I assume to be something to do with welding - has never been mentioned in the family.  However, living in Redcar with all the attendant steel works around it seems quite logical.

Very many thanks, your help is most appreciated.

Regards

Ceeoh

You may be interested to know that 7 West Terrace is now part of the Conservative Club.  :)

I can't see an option to attach a photo on this thread but if you put Redcar Conservative Club in Google Images you'll find it.

Many thanks Roobarb.  Not sure if it was the Conservative many years ago, then became Constitutional and back to Conservative.  As far back as 1941 it was Constitutional but just what it was when Emma Wood took over as Stewardess c1921 (possibly earlier under George Wood) I do not know.  The Wood family were there until 1952.
