Brewers in or near Hayes or Uxbridge in 1871
« on: Tuesday 18 March 14 17:48 GMT (UK) »
Please can any one tell me which brewers there were in or near Hayes or Uxbridge in 1871? In the census that year my greatgrandfather Edwin REFFELL is "foreman in brewery". I wonder if that brewery has any connection to the REFFELL breweries. In 1881 census he is a grocer at 2 Carshalton Grove, "Pearly King" in Carshalton, Surrey and I wonder if that is the name of a public house since he worked at a brewery in 1871.

On his marriage certificate for 21/7/1855 Marylebone both Edwin and his father Joseph gave their occupation as farmers.

In the 1851 census staying with the Reffell family on the farm at Horton a Bucks., was a visitor Edmond Woodland23 brewer born Bognor Sussex.

Thank you. I did not know Edmond WOODLAND was a brewer. A WOODLAND married one of my ancestor's daughters. If my memory serves me rightly it was Ursula REFFELL.
