NOCK, Thomas
« on: Tuesday 18 March 14 20:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for information about the ancestors of Thomas Nock, who the family think came from Birmingham and settled in Australia, around the late 1800's.
Thanks

Hi Whosthatchick

Just to let you know I'm moving your topic to a more appropriate board.

Also, so we don't duplicate your own efforts, do you have dates of birth, marriage and death?

Do you know who he married and did they have children?

Have you found him in the 1881 or 1891 census?

Hi Dawn,
Thomas was born in 1886 and died in Melbourne in 1933.   Father was William Joseph Nock and mother Maria Baglay.   He married Emily Susannah Pearce and they had 5 children.   This is what information I got from Australia.   I have done a bit of searching in England but no luck so far.   The family story is that he came from Birmingham, but it doesn't say in the records I have - just "England".
Thanks for moving the post - I wasn't quite sure where to put it.

Hi Keyboard86,
No I haven't found their marriage details.   Thomas was grown when he left England to "find his fortune" (family quote).   So I imagine in his mid-late teens or early 20's.   He married and lived in Melbourne all his life, was a chef who at one stage had his own restaurant and then worked for Menzies Hotel.

Marriage Reg FreeBMD, June 1852, Stourbridge, 6c 170
Joseph NOCK and Maria BAGLEY (only names on page)

So looks like William Joseph Nock may have used his second name.

Christening;
THOMAS Nock, 25 Dec 1855, Halesowen, Worcester, to JOSEPH/MARIA
Siblings Christenings;
MARY JANE, 25 Dec 1855
WILLIAM, 25 Dec 1855
PHOEBE, 6 July 1858
(Source Familysearch.Org)

There will be more but only searched til 1861 to make it easier to find them on 1861 Census.
Looks like a mass Christening for Thomas/Mary Jane/William.

F/S has Marias name mistranscribed but this is the Marriage date;
Joseph NOCK
England Marriages, 1538–1973
marriage:    28 June 1852 Halesowen,Worcester,England
spouse:    Maria BAYLEY
