Lookup request - westbourne union records
« on: Friday 21 March 14 07:57 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I'm not even sure if these exist but I'm hoping they do in a Sussex archive.

Is anyone able to search for an Ellen Battman, Ellen Glue/grew, Harriet Glue, Cornelius Glue?

Ellen's burial certificate has westbourne union on it but I'm trying to find what happened to her 3 year old daughter Harriet.

Thank you in anticipation.

Helen
Regards

Is the place of death the workhouse or is it just in the Westbourne Union area which had 12 villages within it?   What year did Ellen die?

http://www.sandh.me.uk/ssx1867/westbourne1867.html

West Sussex Archives office has an online catalogue so you can look on that or if you go to the National Archives site A2A you can search all of the south east area.

Sussex Family History Group have a lot of records online for members too.

:'(  I think this is Harriet's death: Harriet Glue, age 22, Petersfield, Hampshire 2c   102

It's just over the border, but the family seem to have moved around quite a lot.

I can't find her in 1901 - yet - but suspect that she is the victim of mis-transcription  ::)

Hi Liz, you are right, that is Harriet's death.

Harriet and her father cornilius glue are both missing from Ellen's death until Harriet's death.  1887 - 1906.  I cannot find any evidence of them anywhere?

I've just noticed that Ellen's burial record say Westbourne Union, whilst there are others that say Westbourne poor house, I thought they were the same, are they not?

Maybe she was in the workhouse in its capacity as a hospital rather than being a pauper.   This in the address column of the certificate as place of death?
