One of my ancestors is Thomas Jones, an Excise Officer who lived in Liverpool between at least 1841 and 1858 having been born in Flintshire.
I have found what *appears* to be his entry papers to the Excise service:
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C9969171
But, due to the cost of copying (£14) I really want to be sure I'm getting the right papers. Would anyone who happens to be going to Kew in the near future be able to call these papers up and let me know if there's a birthplace or a birth year (should be c1795) attached to the paper?
I would be extremely grateful...

Hi Stephen
Chatters who visit the National Archives are few and far between, you might have a bit of a wait.

I suggest hanging on for a few days to see if someone can help out.
